Infield Around the Horn

Timed infield throwing challenge using nine defensive players.

  • Each team gets two (2) attempts.
  • Pitcher starts on the rubber; clock starts when the pitch is released.
  • Ball must follow this sequence, with each fielder touching their base:
    • Pitcher → Catcher (touches home) → 2nd Baseman (touches 2nd)
    • → 1st Baseman (touches 1st) → 3rd Baseman (touches 3rd)
    • → Shortstop (touches 2nd) → Left Fielder (from designated area)
    • → Right Fielder (from designated area) → Center Fielder (from designated area)
    • → Catcher (touches home to stop the clock)
  • Nine (9) players per team may participate.
  • Fastest clean time wins; dropped balls or missed bases must be corrected before throwing.

Team Base Running

Relay-style base running race using eight players.

  • Teams receive two (2) timed attempts.
  • Eight (8) players per team: four at home plate and four at second base.
  • No leadoffs allowed.
  • Relay format:
    • First runner starts at home; clock starts when they leave.
    • When that runner touches second base, the first runner at second (standing behind the base) may leave.
    • When the runner from second touches home, the next runner at home plate may leave.
    • Continue alternating until the final runner touches home plate to stop the clock.
  • Next runner must start behind the base/plate (e.g., behind 2nd or in the right-handed batter’s box) to avoid leaving early.
  • All teams run on the same size field.

Team Home Run Derby

Team hitting contest featuring three hitters per team.

  • Three (3) players per team participate.
  • Each player gets four (4) outs.
  • Any ball not hit over the fence/home run line in fair territory counts as an out.
  • Each batter may take up to two (2) pitches without swinging.
  • After a batter uses the two takes, any additional pitch not swung at is an out.
  • If all tie breakers are exhausted, USSSA Points may be used to break ties in team skills results.
